for once in his life he dropped the charade
she was gorgeous and glowing - a sweet serenade
he could have gone up but he opted to stay
he could see the gates of glory but the devil had his tail
imagine that

she said,  could it be you by the back stairs?
she said, could it be you by the back stairs?

he should have gone up - but he opted to stay
along with the devil- he swaggered and swayed
she thought she could see him - could it be true?
he thought she was waving - but she was just grasping for a clue
